Quality Water

San Juan River Double - Duranglers Fly Fishing guideEven with all the great fly fishing diversity in our area, the San Juan River below Navajo Dam has always been our specialty.  The San Juan is a very unique fishery and tends to frustrate many fishermen with it’s very small flies and unusual fish behavior.  Our guide staff is very experienced with many years of guiding the San Juan River in New Mexico.  A wade or float trip on the San Juan with one of our guides is always an educational experience whether it’s your first or fiftieth trip to the San Juan.

The San Juan River in New Mexico is one of the great tailwater fisheries, and for that reason many fishermen are drawn to the Four Corners area.  At the same time many fishermen are not aware that only a one hour drive north will bring them to more trout waters like the Animas, Piedra and Dolores Rivers, just to name a few. For those looking for more variety and diversity than just the San Juan; Durango is the most central location to fish all the waters available.

The Most Effective Flies

San Juan River Rainbow Trout - Duranglers Fly FIshing GuideIf you have fished the San Juan River in New Mexico before, then you know that many of the fly patterns used are specific to this fishery. Subtle differences can mean the difference between that once in a lifetime day on the water and getting skunked.  For that reason, Duanglers carries dozens of locally tied patterns that are not available at any of the other area fly shops.

Lower River

Lower-Juan-3-copyFor those who have already experienced the Quality Waters of the San Juan; Duranglers also offers a float trip option for the lower river that is not accessible to the public wade fishing. The big dry fly and streamer fishing this section offers is quite a contrast to the technical small bug fishing and numbers of anglers of the upper river. Its a great way to fish two rivers in one.
