Copal Tree Lodge, Belize Hosted Trip with Duranglers Flies and Supplies
Set in the verdant hills above the Caribbean coast of southern Belize, Copal Tree Lodge is a sanctuary from the everyday world. The definition of “agritourism-chic”: a Jungle Lodge, organic farm and a 12,000-acre nature reserve, Copal Tree offers the best in local food and culture, active adventures, wildlife viewing, saltwater fly-fishing, and world-class hospitality. At the heart of the Copal Tree Lodge Belize is the Main Lodge with The Jungle Farm Restaurant, The Rum Bar, the Jungle Spa, lounge areas, a swimming pool, and observation decks that open to stunning vistas of the coast, the Maya Mountains and a seemingly endless pristine rainforest. Our 16 individual, spacious suites are well appointed with plush beds, screened fresh-air verandas, and spa-style bathrooms with floor to ceiling tropical rainforest views. Walk down 365 steps or take the private tram to the riverside dock where kayaks and canoes are available for complimentary use, or visit our air-conditioned gym. From the dock you can embark on tranquil cruises on the jungle reaches of the Rio Grande, or guided snorkeling and fishing adventures on the Caribbean Sea.
Fishing Program: Perched above the Rio Grande River and just a short boat ride from the Caribbean Sea, Copal Tree Lodge is a fly fisher’s paradise. Cast for tarpon and snook on the river and in the mangroves, fish the flats for permit, or when the weather permits, head out to the white sand beaches of the Sapodilla Cayes for bonefish. The majority of the fishing takes place in a protected marine reserve and national parks. Southern Belize is best known as a world-renowned permit territory, and while most anglers who visit the region are intermediate to advanced, Copal Tree’s expert guides also accommodate beginners for a one-of-a-kind fishing experience. Copal Tree’s guides are all local to the Southern Belize region and are happy to accommodate your fishing preference and style. They are extremely patient and professional and understand this is your trip.
Accommodations and meals: Copal Tree Lodge has 16 private suites offering the best in luxury and comfort. A testament to Belize’s natural beauty and craftsmanship, nearly every detail, from the woodwork to the tiles to the artwork, is sourced from local artisans. Whether you’re relaxing on one of the canopy beds or lounging on your own private veranda, you will experience the magic of the jungle within the comfort of your room.
Delicious, authentic food is at the core of the Copal Tree experience. Belizean cuisine is culturally complex like the Belizeans themselves, with influences from the Maya, East Indian, Creole, Mexican and Garifuna Cultures. Copal Tree Lodge does its best to offer a real experience of Belize flavors to its guests, based almost exclusively on ingredients from their own farm. They only use local, humanely raised meats. They raise their own hogs and pastured poultry. They butcher and cure their own meats, including their own breakfast sausage and bacon that is smoked over cinnamon and allspice cuttings. They only use sustainable seafood, supporting small scale, local day boat fishermen and strictly adhere to seasonal fishery openings. They serve all the lion fish we can get, because it is an invasive species and the act of eating it protects our Belize Great Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world, from species and habitat loss. We only use wild shrimp, or shrimp from a well researched, land locked sustainable shrimp farm, Cardelli Farm in Placencia.
