Creeks Of The San Juan Mountains

The Fly Fishing waters in the Durango area are very numerous and diverse.  There is of course the famous San Juan River below Navajo Dam along with the larger freestone rivers like the Animas, Piedra and Dolores.  But there are also more small mountain streams than can be fished in a lifetime.

SO MUCH WATER SO LITTLE TIME!

The Creeks within an easy drive of Durango Colorado offer some of the finest freestone, pocket water fishing to be found in the US.  Being located in the 9000 to 10,000 foot elevation they also offer spectacular scenery.  Depending on the Creek you will find an abundance of Rainbow, Brown and Brook Trout.  There are also areas to find our Native Colorado River Cutthroat!   The fish are opportunistic feeders given the short growing season (June to November) and will readily rise to the attractor dry fly.  These are not to be missed fisheries for the novice as well as the accomplished fly anglers.

Many of the streams can be reached  road but if you like to hike a little or a lot the amount of water to explore is almost limitless.
