Fine handcrafted artwork by Bill Flick. Carving fly fishing flies is a unique form of artwork directly associated with the true art of tying a fly with feathers and fur. All of Bill Flick’s carvings are representations and replications of actual named fly patterns or natural imitations of aquatic insects. http://flycarvings.com

Beginning Saturday February 27 we will be offering free fly tying instruction at the shop from 1o to 12 in the morning. The classes will continue ever Saturday until May 29. Never evers, beginners and experienced tiers welcome. No equipment or materials needed, just come on down and lets warp some bugs. Tying flies and supporting fly tiers has always been important to Duranglers. This commitment goes back over 25 years when John and Tom tied every fly that left the shop.

So New Mexico State Parks had planned a few dates early this year in which they were going close the all State Parks to save money. This included the San Juan Quality Waters below Navajo Dam. The closure dates NM State Parks have planned to put into place were to be Tuesday March 2 and Tuesday March 23.
HOWEVER, the state realized the error of their ways and have CANCELED the upcoming closure days. The San Juan Quality Waters will now be open on those dates and there are no closure dates planned in the future.
So if your day off is Tuesday, despair no longer! Get out there, slay hogs, and thank NM governor Bill Richardson.

**** RENTAL BOOTS AND WADERS ARE NOW ON SALE ****
Don’t miss out, they’ll be gone before you know it!
February can be a great month to fish both the Animas and San Juan rivers. The determining factor, as always, is the weather. Only in the past several weeks has the cold abated enough for the Animas to become fishable. Look for moderating temperatures so you can get out and fish to fish that must be hungry. The best flies right now are small bead head nymphs in sizes 16, 18, and 20 and midges in 18 and 20. Look for midge and Blue Winged Olive hatches and have Parachute Adams in 18 and 20 handy.
The San Juan Quality Water is still running around 450cfs. The river is in great shape for February and the fishing is quite good. Midges are still the flies of choice, but streamers, buggers, and leeches will catch plenty of fish, particularly if the water is a bit off color. A white bunny leech and red Analid has been a hot combo.
Duranglers is selling a selection boots and waders from the rental program. The waders are the Simms Guide Model and the boots are the Simms Freestone. There is a very full selection of sizes in both boots and waders. So if you need boots and/or waders come on in and check out the sale. Also, more of the summer wear has been put on sale. And, don’t forget Duranglers for those VALENTINE’s gifts. Tight lines from the guys and gals at Duranglers.

This past week brought a much-needed snow to the San Juan Mountains. Wolf Creek Pass recorded 63 inches with lower elevations seeing 24”-30”. This puts our snow pack nicely above average and is great news for the coming summer and fall fishing. Here is downtown Durango dealing with Frozen Trout Habitat.
