June is upon us and the snowmelt is pretty much done. The Animas River is fishing well and the high mountain creeks and the Piedra are very soon to be in fishable condition. The Animas is in prime streamer condition and there have been reports of caddis hatches in the evening. Here is Duranglers Guide Mike Sulkosky with an excellent dry fly fish!
The San Juan River below Navajo Dam has just been brought back to 500 cfs after one week at 5000 and is fishing extremely well. Flows should be steady around 500 cfs for the foreseeable future. Midges and the occasional Beatis are what’s happening.
Flat water fishing on the regional lakes and reservoirs offer good fishing opportunities for trout, pike, smallmouth and crappie.
