The Backcountry Beetle, designed and tied by Matt Bennett, is a simple but very effective foam beetle. We really like fishing this fly throughout the summer into fall, and trout seem to love it in the high country and on our local Dolores River. The Backcountry Beetle is a quick and durable tie that is even great for beginners who are learning fly tying. We even like this bug as a small bass and panfish dry fly.
We filmed the Backcountry Beetle fly tying tutorial with Matt during his in-store demo last year. He will once again grace us with his presence this year in the shop on May 28th, 2019 at 6pm. Bring your notepad and prepare to learn some new fly tying tricks and techniques!
