It is still very early in the game to know exactly how spring flows will shake out below Navajo Dam but here is what we think we know at this point. It seems very likely that we will have a spring flushing flow of 5000 cfs for one week, with one week to ramp up and one week to ramp down.
So if this happens we would have a 3 week spill mostly likely begining around the 23rd of May. The first few days of increased flows makes for bad fishing, mostly due to lots of floating debris. After that the San Juan can fish very well at high flows especially with San Juan Worm and Anilid patterns. As the river falls fishing should continue to be good.
The river needs a flush every year so this is a good thing especially since we did not get 5000 cfs flows last year. This forecast can change and we will keep you in the know. Tight Lines, Tom
