Animas Lunch Report – 6/8/15 – Peak Flows
We took a week off from the Animas Lunch Report but we are back at it!
This time, let’s discuss peak flows. We reported on our Facebook a few days ago that it looked like peak flows hit June 3rd. While this seemed to be true and flows were going back down, we didn’t factor in mother nature and her fickle temperament. Thanks to the rain this past weekend, flows went back up and then SURPASSED peak flows on the Animas river yesterday, spiking above 5000 cfs. Check it out:
What does this mean? Well for one it means that no one can fully know what is going to happen with nature. It also means that this year’s runoff just keeps on keeping on. The forecast calls for more rain starting Wednesday and will continue on through the weekend. With most of our guides headed over to Creede and the Rio Grande this week, float fishing is going to get righteous!
Andy – I have been tarpon fishing this past week, so I don’t really know what’s going on with the Animas…
…ok so I just went and checked on the Animas. It’s high and muddy. Go hit up the San Juan and wait out the runoff. The Juan is fishing great right now (see above photo)! Hopefully you booked a Rio Grande trip this June because it looks like it is going to be a good one.
