Animas Lunch Report – 11/19/15 – Midges, Midges Abound!
I had a few minutes to get out of the shop and make a few casts on lunch. I mainly headed down to the river to try out the Sage Accel and a few new flies (specifically this Kreelex streamer…more on that later). I didn’t even wader up.
First off, the Accel is a very nice rod. A little slower than my Z-axis, but that isn’t a bad thing. A fantastic all around rod for nymphs, dries, and streamers.
Secondly, I did not come prepared. No waders, just a few random flies, and just a few minutes of time. Fish were up on the Animas. Eating on top. As in dry flies. All over the place. Big fish. They were eating hard too.
No waders meant I couldn’t access the biggest fish feeding in the center river columns. No flies meant I didn’t have any dries that the fished cared about. Very little time meant I would just be heading back slightly excited, slightly frustrated. With no fish to hand, and a heap of fish visibly feeding, it looks like we have a small window of dry fly action these days. With a flow of 279 cfs, the next few days are looking good!
