Join us at the shop for a great night of fly tying expertise with our friend Matt Bennett. Matt the originator of the Lunch Money streamer and a master tier. Come watch him tie some of his favorite patterns at the shop and bring your questions!
Matt Bennett is a full-time commercial fly tier and the owner of Fly Geek Custom Flies. While having a varied interest in many different types of fly fishing, Matt most enjoys both tying flies and fishing for the native bass species of the Texas Hill Country, and most of his flies were created to fool this specific quarry. However, most of Matt’s patterns have a broad universal appeal to fish species all over, and he very much enjoys sharing his tying and fishing knowledge with others. Matt has fished the waters of southwestern Colorado since he was a teenager and especially enjoys chasing native Cutthroat trout in creeks throughout the San Juans. Matt is a member of the Umpqua Feather Merchants Signature Fly Designer program, and his initial pattern, Bennett’s Lunch $, is available in fly shops all over the country. Matt currently serves as the Conservation Chair of the Austin Fly Fishers, the Vice President of the Texas Council FFI and was awarded the 2015 Charles E. Brooks Memorial Award by the International Federation of Fly Fishers. Matt resides in Austin, TX with his wife, Amanda, and Welsh Corgi, Winston. You can view more of his work at his website, flygeek.net or on Instagram @flygeekmatt.
Fisherman’s Entomology with Rob Schmidt – June 13th, 6-7 pm
Stoneflies and mayflies and midges and caddis, oh my! How does an angler tell them all apart? Thankfully, you don’t have to have a degree in Entomology in order to figure out what the trout are eating.
Shop manager Rob Schmidt will be presenting an informative clinic on bugs that all fly fisherman should know and understand, times of the year when those hatches can be expected, and choosing the right fly imitation to fool fish.
This is a free event for anyone and everyone! Come expecting to learn.
