If you want the video version Two Flies, head on over to our Instagram or Facebook and watch our story that you can follow every Thursday titled “2 Flies”. This series will be showcasing 2 flies that we are using RIGHT NOW to catch fish on our local waters.
Well it seems that our weather has finally started to turn around and we have had a nice little warming trend. We are not into full-on summer run off mode just yet, but it is coming. Rivers are rising and getting dirty and you know what that means right? We are hitting tailwaters or lakes! Read on to see what we are using this week!

You have probably noticed that we really like this fly. Like, a lot. It works for any meat-eating fish from trout to bass to snook and pike. The Easter and Tan colors are the ones we are tying on RIGHT NOW for smallmouth bass as we wait for the rivers to clear. The Brown Trout color will come into play really soon once our rivers peak and start to drop. Then them big browns and bows will be HANGRY!

Son of Crazy Dad
This bug is a new one for us this year. A size 12 crayfish that can be fished a ton of ways for a variety of fish. First of all, we are loving this bug for trout on Nighthorse and Electra where crayfish make up a huge part of a trout’s diet. This has also been a winner for us for feeding carp in shallow water. Ones the water on the Animas starts to clear, we really like this fly on a nymph set up fished dead drift on the bottom.
Finally, when trout and bass are being weird with the changing weather we have been having at Vallecito, put this one on behind a bigger streamer, fish it slower, and hold on.
Also, this fly has one of the weirdest names, so it is pretty much a guaranteed winner.
