Animas Lunch Report – 10/16/15 – The End?
Is this weekend going to be the end of our Indian summer? With precip on the forecast, only time will tell. Temps will be dropping to the 60’s tomorrow and you can always anticipate snow in the high country with rain down low.
Ahead of the cooling temps and rain, we have seen our resident brown trout begin their active spawning routine. Keep an eye out for redds and try to avoid fishing to actively spawning fish. Give them their room and let them be. A spawning fish is a happy fish and a happy fish spawns successfully and will make lots of little baby brown trout. We love baby brown trout; they grow up into big mean adults and have more baby brown trout.
Lots of eggs will be in the system, so rainbows and non-spawning browns may key in on huevos.
The Animas is currently flowing at 264 and the San Juan was just dropped to 418. With the overcast weather this weekend, get out there and huck some meat. Fish are on the feed!
