Animas Lunch Report – 10/22/15 – Deluge
Rob and I made a quick spey mission of our lunch break today. The plan was to scarf some food and book it to the Animas for a few swings through some select runs and then book it back. A 509 cfs and about 2 feet of clarity; the Animas was looking prime for some streamers served skagit style.
Half way to the river, the skies opened up full throttle and we were treated with heavy frigid rains, hail, and an ever muddying river of lost souls. It felt we were getting the full on Pacific Northwest treatment. All we needed was an 8 pound fish on our line to round out the effect. Unfortunately, all we got was cold and wet. I didn’t even bother with a photo of the heavy rains on the river juxtaposed against the brightly colored trees lining the bank. I didn’t want to destroy my camera. You will just have to imagine it for yourself.
Best bet if you are going to fish the Animas right now: eggs, cranefly larva, San Juan Worms, Prince Nymphs, and Pat’s Rubberlegs. Throw the nasty stuff….and dark streamers.
In the meantime, we hope you are getting excited for the upcoming video from Yeti Coolers about the life of legendary Duranglers guide Mark Engler. Make sure you check out the trailer.
This latest fish ain’t to shabby either:
