Animas Lunch Report – 11/13/15 – Hunting Season
You may or may not have noticed that our blog has been a little bit quiet the past few weeks. Besides being a fairly busy time for us on the back end (receiving new product, shipping orders, getting ready for the holidays); many of us have been taking full advantage of the fall hunting season. With ducks and elk on the brain, we have been slipping behind with our Animas Lunch Report lately.
Well as of now, the Animas bumped up to about 300 cfs today. Bumps in flows tend to come from snowmelt during the warmer late fall days. Typically this won’t have real any affect on the fishing. Fish have been hanging deep with the colder water temps and have been keying in on smaller nymphs. Cased caddis, baetis nympsh, and midges are going to be standard fare for much of the winter. Most of the fall brown trout spawn is over and done with, but it would be wise to have a few eggs on hand. When it is slow, huevos tend to shake of the skunk.
A egg with a Juju Baetis nymph trailed behind it might be one of the better combos you could fish right now.
And if you are a streamer junkie…well it is going to be tough. Patience will be key with the colder water. Get lots of weight on there and strip sloooow. Even then, fish may not eat. Look for the warmer sunny days to get the trout moving to meat.
As always, you can call or stop in the shop for an up to date report. Here are a few of our hunting photos from this season so far. No matter what, make sure you get out and enjoy this beautiful time of year!
