Animas Lunch Report – 2/26/16 – Spring Floats
If you are a competent (or brave) oarsman, float fishing the Animas is happening. Not for the novice, there are a lot of moves to make in this skinny water. However, for those with the aptitude, you can get out on the river and have a good early Spring day floating and throwing streamers. Just remember to fish them slow before the water warms up midday. You will also want to plan on your float taking longer, the water is only flowing at about 300 cfs…so don’t put in with your hardboat just yet…
Also, if you often find yourself asking your buddies “how is the Animas looking today?”…well we have a website you are going to want to bookmark. Durango Live Cam is up and running and has 10 live feeds of our local area. Of particular interest is the Animas River feed, showing the Animas from the 9th street bridge to the Skatepark pedestrian bridge. Now you can always have an answer! (It should be noted that these feeds to not show the Animas below Lightner, so throughout the spring the water below 160 bridge could be quite a bit different.)
The weekend temps are predicted to be high 50s, so get out there before the water muddies up too much.
