Animas Lunch Report – 4/13/15 – On the Menu
This golden stone was pulled out of a pile of sticks and debris by us recently on the Pine River below Bayfield. The Pine river on the Ute property can yield very good fishing depending on the season. There is abundant bug life, which means lots of menu choices for trout! Look for hatches of midges and BWOs or fish deep with stones, sowbugs, small and large mayfly nymphs (think drakes), and cased caddis.
Andy – It looks like the warmer weather may be bringing about an increase in flows on the Animas, but it is still too early to tell. Currently sitting at 572 cfs, the water is a beautiful emerald green color and very clear. Look for hatches of BWOs or go deep with small nymph rigs. Of course, streamers are still a great idea.
UPDATE!!! There is currently a fire burning south of town on the Animas River, read more updates here!
