Animas Lunch Report – 4/17/15 – Baetis
It has been cloudy, spitting snow, and a high of 52 today. Perfect baetis conditions. Going into the weekend the forecast is just about the same as it was today: 50s, cloudy, and a chance of moisture.
Andy – Hit the river on lunch and was able to bring one brown in on a purple SJ worm. At about 3:00 pm a pretty substantial (for the Animas) baetis hatch kicked it into gear. Saw one little guy hit the surface a few times but that was about it for risers. Baetis nymphs and emergers (RS-2s, WD-40s) should pick you up a few fish all weekend.
It seems the majority of our guide reports are of cold days, but good fishing in the later afternoons on the Animas River. Big boys have been hooked on Pat’s Rubberlegs, baetis, and caddis nymphs. With this weather, baetis will be showing up on a lot of our rivers such as the San Juan, Dolores, and Piedra.
Make sure to check our Area Rivers Report if you plan on getting out this weekend!
