Animas Lunch Report – 4/24/15 – Weekend Update
It looks like the weekend forecast here in Durango is calling for highs in the 50’s and rain. Heck, it has rained, sleeted, snowed, and hailed…just today.
Kyle – When the rains come down, the Baetis come up!
Andy – Weekend warriors: it is going to be rainy, overcast, and cold this weekend.
I would suggest you stay indoors. Don’t go fishing, it will be just too cold. So what if overcast and rainy days account for incredible BWO hatches on the San Juan and Animas rivers. So what if the cloud cover makes for aggressive predators such as pike, musky, and big browns losing their inhibitions and attacking anything that moves. So what if our fisheries are devoid of other fisherman thanks to the weather.
Stay indoors this weekend; I will be glad you did…
And that is our Weekend Update…
…remember the Weekend Update on Saturday Night live (you don’t have to dig deep, it still happens on SNL after all). Consider this: the Weekend Update reporter that resonates most in our mind (the one we think of first when I say “SNL Weekend Update”) defines us.
That’s right, I have discovered that every person is defined by their most memorable Weekend Update reporter. It is telling of our personality. It is telling of our age. It is telling of our soul.
Do Chevy Chase or Jane Curtin resonate with you? Are you most akin to Tina Fey? Perhaps Seth Meyers. These answers are most telling.
For me, it is Norm Macdonald. Norm was at his height when I was saying up past bedtime to catch the jokes I didn’t understand on Saturday nights. I find a kindred spirit with Norm probably because I am a sarcastic, over the top, line crosser who is destined for obscurity.
What does this have to do with fly fishing? Nothing, but it is something to think on as you sit inside this weekend, not casting BWO dries to rising trout.
(If you do get out, make sure you have some good gear to stay warm!)
