Animas Lunch Report – 4/3/15 – Polytetrafluoroethylene
Polytetrafluoroethylene; say that 3 times fast. What is polytetramacallit? Basically, it is expanded teflon. Like that teflon nonstick cookwear in your kitchen.
So why am I even talking about polytetrafluoroethylene in our daily Animas River Lunch Report. Well we had a short shop staff clinic this morning on Simms products put on by Chad Harkins of Five Oceans Sales. We learned that Gore-tex is basically expanded polytetrafluoroethylene…or expanded teflon. It’s pretty much a fabric teflon that works really well at keeping you dry. Chad will be doing a presentation tomorrow morning at the shop on dressing for success while fly fishing at 8:30 am. Stop in and ask him about polytetrafluoroethylene and why it makes the best wader material.
Speaking of presentations…don’t forget that tonight kicks off our two day Fly Fishing Festival. Been thinking about picking up a new rod? Our Sage and Scott reps Erik Johnson and Frank Smethurst will have a whole arsenal of rods for you to cast starting at noon at Santa Rita Park tomorrow. You know what else happens at noon at Santa Rita Park? Lunch on Duranglers. So come get some food and talk fly fishing with many of our reps, guides, shop staff, and Jamie Allen of Shallow Waters Guide Service out of Boca Grande Florida.
Animas Lunch Report
Andy – First, if you have not been; let me suggest you go to Grassburger here in town. It is a new and very delicious grass-fed beef burger joint. You can even order ONLINE!
So after scarfing my wonderful Grassburger, I walked on over to the Animas to give the 8 wt a short 20 minute workout. Moved one fish who violently attacked the streamer I was fishing twice on one cast before he peaced out. Saw a few BWOs struggling on the surface as well. The water clarity is GOOD right now and is only getting better. This weekend should be prime time. Fish streamers only…but if you must; nymph rigs with pheasant tails, BWO nymphs, stonefly nymphs, and RS-2s should be a good starting point. Watch for fishable BWO hatches and we will see you at our Fest and the Fly Fishing Film tour tomorrow.
