Animas Lunch Report – 4/9/15 – The Freakin Weekend
It’s almost the weekend. A Spring weekend no less. What is Spring to you?
Spring to us is floating the rivers we love with friends, throwing 6 and 7 weight rods with large streamers in tow, holding breaths for that take. Spring is when we spend some time behind a map, scouting for that summer road trip or week long trek into cuttie territory. Spring is gear check season. Spring is the time to dust off our 9 weights to trip half way around the world for bonefish or just a quick drive up the road for pike in the 40s. Spring is sweater weather. It’s buzzcut season (thanks Lorde). Spring is a time to bring out the macro lens just in case some wildflowers pop. Spring is a patient wait for the right blue winged olive conditions. It’s turkey calls and camo paint. It’s longer days full of yard work and chainsaws. Spring is a morning coffee taken on the porch. Spring for us is a time to get out of the house and explore…preferably with close friends.
Kyle – For the time being, the nymph game is back ON. Baetis nymphs in riffles and heavy water are taking fish. The nymph game; live it, breathe it.
Andy – 605 cfs and it was a perfect day to cruise the trail looking for some good water to swing. Clarity is great on the Animas and BWOs are starting to show. The BWO game is in full swing on the San Juan and many of our lower elevation rivers are picking up. Get out there this weekend and find some fish!
