Animas Lunch Report – 5/13/15 – Lower D
Blue skies, blue winged olives…but no blues. That is the recent report from Corky and his client Tom after a day on the Lower D. While the water is very low and the fish are spooky, the high desert canyon scenery makes this place one of a kind.
Tom – A recent float on the Animas proved that fish are looking to eat streamers right now…but not too many fish yet. The water is high, cold, and off color. Big dark nymphs and streamers fished close to the bank will produce a fish or two.
Andy – I just want to echo Tom’s statement but also add that the downslope of runoff in a few weeks should be pretty great for float fishing. The Animas is sitting at 1230 cfs and rising. The same runoff conditions are also affecting the Upper San Juan, Piedra, Upper Pine, Upper Dolores, and San Miguel rivers.
We have been posting these frequently, so how about another. Redington just dropped their fourth installment of their Find Your Water series. Awesomely, it is on some local New Mexico water only a few hours drive from us. Check it out:
