Animas Lunch Report – 6/9/15 – Flat and Tail
The news is hard to hear, I know. I see you are feeling cheated. I am sorry to be the one to bring you this news, but it is not my fault. I don’t control the weather, it’s just one of those things that is above my pay grade. Yep it is run off, when the snow melts in the late spring and early summer and flows down the mountains into our rivers. It causes the flows to go up and the water gets muddy. On top of that, we have seen lots and lots of rain. We are going to see more. A lot more this week in fact…
It’s been coming, and it’s still coming. You are not going to want to hear this, but the truth is that we are loving this weather. It’s tough for fishing right now, but in the long run it is better for all our local fisheries. We need the water. Where are you supposed to fish? Well let me tell you a little bit about our local flatwaters and tailwaters…
Andy – At this point, we have given up speculating what is going to happen with the weather and flows. Whatever is going to happen will happen, sooner or later the flows will come back down and we will be fishing it all again. In the meantime, we have plenty of lakes, reservoirs, and tailwaters to fish.
Of course you know about the San Juan River, but the Lower Dolores and Uncompahgre river tailwaters are also an option. Our local lakes are also in full on early summer fishing mode. Here are just a few of the many options for you: Summit, Puett, Pastorius, Vallecito, Lemon, Totten, Navajo, Joe Moore, McPhee, and Echo.
Don’t worry, our local rivers will be back in shape before you know it!
