Animas Lunch Report – 7/8/15 – Caddis and PMDs and Hoppers Oh My!
If you managed to miss the monsoon mud (muddy rivers due to rain) then you may have noticed a few hatches popping on the Animas. The bugs of interest these days are Caddis, PMDs, and Hoppers.
Caddis – You can always go with caddis standbys such as an Elk Hair Caddis or Stimulator…or You can check out some of our newer favorites such as the Clownshoe Caddis, Diving Caddis, Mercer’s Missing Link, Caddistrophic Pupa, and the Tan Bubbleback Caddis.
PMDs – Make sure to have a few PMD Pink Hairwing Duns, CDC Comparaduns, Barr’s Vis-a-Dun, Sproat PMD, Pheasant Tails, and Brown Baetis Nymphs.
Hoppers – Some of the most fun dries to fish, make sure to have a few Sweetgrass Hoppers, Tantrums, Morrish Hoppers, and Turk’s Tarantulas to plop on the water.
Andy – While the Animas saw some good hatches and fishing in the past few days, it looks like mud has come with the monsoon rains. Look for the river to clear in the next day or so. In the meantime, fish dark streamers and big nymphs.
