Animas Lunch Report – STOCKED
Well…. we’re stocked
And I don’t mean the shop (although we are stocked to the brim with any and all your fly fishing needs)
As my associate Andy eluded to yesterday, the Animas has been stocked with very eager, dimly-colored and ultimately very fun “rainbows” grown in the hatchery. What does this mean?
It means all these flies worked for me today on lunch…
For those who are very happy to hook a bunch of fish (like me), the glory days are here. I had on a weird nymph rig on with that gross Egg Sucker you see there and a prince and immediately took fish on both. After those two my third cast had a fish slam the yellow bobber. So on went the yellow Charlie Boy Hopper. Boom… fish.
A few weeks ago, a good customer brought in a mayfly for us to try to identify that had been hatching near his home on the Animas. As best any of us could tell, it was a Green Drake or at least some sort of “clinging” mayfly. “Interesting” I thought. Today, I saw a bunch of their shucks in the water. Weird. Food for thought….
Happy catching everyone
