This is one we have been pretty excited about. After getting a sneak peek at the Sage SALT R8 fly rods about a month back, we have to say their arrival couldn’t come soon enough.
The Sage SALT R8 has been designed for saltwater anglers by Sage AND saltwater guides who demand the highest level of performance from their gear. With its fast action and powerful butt section, the SALT R8 can handle even the strongest pulling saltwater fish. The high-performance graphite blank is both light in hand and swing weight, yet strong, making it perfect for all-day casting and fighting big fish.
The Sage Salt R8 boasts a number of innovative design features as expected on new high-end fly rods such as a saltwater-specific guide set and a heavy-duty reel seat, along with 25% more pulling power and more touch in the tip. The biggest thing we all noticed right away was that while these rods are powerful enough for long-distance casting, the SALT R8 is deadly accurate and easy to cast at targets from 20-40 feet (where most saltwater fish are caught in reality).
Along with the release of the SALT R8, Sage released their newly designed big game/saltwater flats reel, the ENFORCER. This reel is a replacement for the older SPECTRUM MAX and a much welcomed upgrade. To keep it short, the ENFORCER boasts a stronger, more ridged frame and spool, and 50% added drag strength.
