The Stupid Fast Caddis
Playing around with a few new materials here at the Duranglers Shop, I came up with the Stupid Fast Caddis. It’s stupid fast because you can really crank these out quick. There isn’t a lot too it, and fish really seem to like it (at least they did this past weekend). Tie a few and try them out on your local caddis infested waterway.
Hook: TMC 2487 or your favorite curved nymph hook #14-18
Thread: Olive Semper Fli Nano Silk 18/0, 8/0 Uni Thread, or 70 Denier Ultra Thread
Abdomen: Nymph Green Semper Fli Bodyspan
Wingbuds: (Optional) Mottled Grey Kreelex Flash
Thorax: Hare’s Mask Dubbing
The trick to this bug is adjusting the tension on how you wrap the Bodyspan depending on the size of fly you are going for. The fly pictured is a size 16 that I wrapped with very moderate tension (but you could probably get a tight body with Bodyspan down to as size 22). I then tied off the Bodyspan closer to the eye and wrapped my thread back over the Bodyspan wraps to really keep it in place. Dub your thorax loose, with a little dubbing at a time and you will be set!
