Animas Lunch Report – 3/22/16 – The Pike Season Cometh
Warm spring air, windy days, and muddy rivers…it’s pike season. The time of year where heavy predators lurk the shallows in search of an easy meal. While some are just starting to think about getting out for pike in a few weeks, Captian Mark Engler has already been after it for a month.
Mark has been getting it dialed on Navajo, and it is only a matter of days before we see open water on Vallecito. If you are new to the pike game, we suggest you check out Puett or Totten to cut your teeth on smaller pike that will still teach you a lot in the way of pike angling. If you really want to learn the game of pike on the fly…really learn and understand it…then we always suggest getting out for a day on the water with Mark. It is indispensable if you want to learn how to consistently catch big pike.
There is always good by-catch when it comes to pike on the fly too.
