Animas Lunch Report 3/27 – Yerba Mate Tea
We just received a whole heap of new gear for spring from Patagoina, Scott Rods, Montana Fly Company, Umpqua, Exofficio, and a few more. Stop in the shop or check it out online. This new Patagonia Bison Cap is awesome.
Kyle – Very Green Tea-ish out there on the ol’ Animas. Very good visibility… at least 2ft, maybe more. In years past, I have done very well with black streamers in these situations. However, the water is VERY cold. If you do throw the big nasty, go slow and pretty deep. Or do the polar opposite… fast and shallow.

Fish some nice riffle water. I think these waters get overlooked when the water is still cold. There’ll be some fish in them. Keep on the look out for spawning fish though, and let ’em be if they’re getting busy.
Saw one very small midge buzzing about. Nothing else of note to report. Most of tomorrow should still be great to be out there, not seeing any spikes in the graph coming down from Tall Timber… yet. Currently at 524 cfs in town.
Tom – Eating Subway…again. Also Tom is spending his lunch getting intimate with the Sage 9140 Method and 9140 ONE spey rods. What’s the difference? We will have to see…
Andy – Saw a few BWOs on the water. I nymphed with big and small bugs for the majority of the time…nothing. Switched to a black and white streamer before heading back and had a bruiser hit it hard and fast. Got him to flash at it again, but no go. Streamer fishing is now. The water is a little warmer than the past few days. It should be noted that I was stripping this bug fast:
