Animas Lunch Report – 3/30/15 – Adventure Time

It looks like the Animas River has reached early stages of runoff.  As you can see, the river is doing it’s daily stair climbing.

Andy – This Monday brings higher, muddy water to the Animas.  Today might be tough fishing, but as always, watch for a drop in the flows after a day or two of cooler weather.  This is a possibility later this week.

What could you do in the meantime?  Well you could hash it out on the Animas, hoping for something big to eat; or you could stay home and tie flies, go to work, OR make some adventure happen.  Here is a quick list of things you could totally adventure:

1. Fish some local lakes, most are open and ice free.  Trout, bass, and pike oh my!
2. Tailwaters, we have a few around.  San Juan, Williams Creek, Dolores, Pine or Florida (if you have access), Uncompahgre, etc.
3. Do a little fly fishing road trip.  Good destinations like: the Green River in Utah, Taos (lots to fish including lower Rio pike) in New Mexico, or Basalt, CO with the Frying Pan and Roaring Fork.  If you hate crowds, don’t go to the South Platte Dream Stream.
4. Creeks!  Some are open, most are slow for fishing, but it’s an adventure.  Bring nymphs and extra layers.
5. Go to Belize and find some bonefish or permit.
6. Fly to New Zealand and mouse up some giant browns.

The last two may not be that feasible for most.
